Books for Middle Schoolers with Reading Disabilities

Help me give my students with reading disabilities access to more books they can read independently, that have content that is still appropriate for teens. This will foster both their ability and love of reading!

My Project

I work with middle school students with varying disabilities in reading and math. Middle school is already a difficult time socially, and students with disabilities are often embarrassed or nervous about the way their peers may view their disabilities.

The vast majority of books that have an appropriate reading level are created for young children, and this causes students to disengage with reading completely.

Teens with reading disabilities need more access to age appropriate and interesting content in order to maintain their drive to continue reading. Reading is essential to life, and every person deserves access to content of their choice! Not just what is available.
