This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am infinitely grateful to have been given the opportunity to teach 20 beautiful and brilliant minds. My classroom is filled with energetic, passionate, and critical students. The knowledge, languages, and cultural diversity they bring into the classroom creates a dynamic learning environment.

I would like to harness the cultural, linguistic, and diverse wealth my students bring into the classroom to get the entire class excited for literacy.

To this end, it is important for me to provide my students with the appropriate resources and supplies. Please help our students get what they need and deserve!

My Project

I recently switched grade-levels and left my classroom library behind--I wanted to give a new teacher the luxury of having a fully stocked classroom library. However, my current classroom library is dismal. The books are at least a decade old; not enough books are available to students who struggle the most; the books do not reflect the interest of my students.

My project is about helping kids learn how to read, and the bottom line is that if students do not have books they are interested in and can read, they will not grow as readers.

Please help me by providing my students with books that are at their level and function as both mirrors (reflections of their own narratives) and windows (a glance into someone else's narrative). Kids need books to learn how to read, and with your help, my classroom will achieve amazing things!
