This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This group of students is entering a new school year after the pandemic. After such a rough time of uncertainty, I want both students and parents to be excited about school! These books will help children learn to cope with uncertainties, practice mindfulness, and remember to laugh and enjoy the little things. Books on this list also discuss diversity and appreciating our differences. It is important for a young child to develop a strong sense of self-worth. My students go to a title 1 school, where more than 50% come from low-income households. Many do not have books of their own at home and so I want to share these wonderful stories with all of them.

My Project

Books are not provided by our school; instead, all class books are provided by the classroom teacher. Books play an important role for students to learn non-academic skills that are still crucial growing up.

These books teach mindfulness, how to focus on positives during times of uncertainty, and how to appreciate others' cultural belief systems and racial differences.

Students would benefit from stories that encourage us to respect our differences and be confident in who we are. Everyone is special in their own way and children should practice self-confidence and self-worth at an early age.
