My Project
I've taught newcomer English Language Learners in a few different school districts now and what I've found is that while districts supply books that are age appropriate for students, they're not reading level appropriate. For instance, I have 6-8th grade newcomers right now and the books I've been given all have at least a 6th grade reading level. Expecting anyone to read at grade level in a brand new language is unrealistic. I need books for my newcomer students who have come here with very little to no English skills.
