Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a diverse group of learners and care about each other as a true class family. Students come together to support each other in all that they do. They are caring and compassionate and love to learn.
Our class is predominantly low income students.
Almost 50% are English Language Learners from all different countries. There are many refugees in our school and other students with challenging backgrounds. Nevertheless, the students are hard workers and dedicated to learning. We are a close-knit family of teachers and learners.
My Project
Having beginning reading books is vital for ELL students and refugee newcomers. Our school has the largest population of students learning English in our entire city. We struggle to find beginner books that are just right for a new reader.
These colorful and engaging books will help our English Language Learners enjoy learning how to read.
It is exciting to watch students learn to read, but it is even more exciting to watch students who have previously not had reading materials to open up a beautiful book and find success in knowing what the text says. With your help, my students will have a wonderful time engaging with these amazing books during their first literacy experiences.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
