Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach in a suburb of Los Angeles with a wonderful group of students. We are diverse group with many different abilities and needs. I love being their teacher and look forward to coming to school every day (even on Zoom) to see and teach them.
These kids have been amazing to start off the year online.
My students finished last year online, and they are starting this year online. They are missing many wonderful opportunities that you can only do in the classroom. Even though we are only seeing each other through Zoom, I can see that they are a wonderful group of kids and they deserve to have an excellent year.
My Project
I use a token economy in my class. Throughout the year they have the opportunity to earn points and then spend those points in the class store. This year I want to give my students the opportunity to buy books from the store.
I want to engage my students with reading.
By letting them choose and purchase the book, they will be more likely to read the book. Reading is a gateway to learning and I want my students to be lifelong readers.
I hope that by having books available to them, they will want to read.
