This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I hold my students to high expectations because I believe all of my students are capable of greatness. Many of my students have not finished a full book or have books to read at home. My goal this year is to show students that books can open their minds to new adventures and worlds.
I have a classroom of wonderful 8th grade students who are curious, talented, and kind.
I work at a Title 1 school with about 80% free and reduced lunch. Despite the challenges of living in a high poverty community, my students come to school with positive attitudes and continue to achieve academically. In my eighth grade English classroom, I strive to create an environment where students are held to high expectations and challenged each day.
My Project
My students will use the Lord of the Flies books to engage in a unit based on the text that challenges them to think critically and respond to what they read. Students will not only learn the power of reading, they will also practice literary analysis skills that will prepare them for high school and college and also improve their vocabulary and critical thinking skills. Having books in my classroom enables students to not only be exposed to great literature, but also shows them that books are essential to asking and answering questions about their lives.
These books will help my students to understand that reading is essential in their lives. Having books for my students is essential in 8th grade because my students deserve to have access to books and engage in challenging material.
This project will improve my classroom because it will give my students access to books!
Resources in my school are limited but I want my students to have access to the same materials because they too deserve an excellent education! I do not want where my students live determine what types of resources they receive in school. These books will help my students see the ability of books to take them to another world. I am hoping to ignite a passion of reading in my students!
