it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My students are amazing, thoughtful, and interested learners. They consistently surprise me with their curiosity and historical thinking skills. These books will help them grasp a more well-rounded understanding of US History while practicing their critical literacy skills and engaging in deeper learning. They will use "A Young People's History" to gain a greater understanding of historical phenomena and the "why" of History. It will help them see voices, perspectives, and stories that can be often left out of a standard History curriculum.
With these books, students will be able to explore US History fully.
It will allow them to tap into nuanced perspectives and understand History in another light. My goal in using these books is to be able to have students reach for them frequently throughout the school year so that we can read about History in ways that can't be done from a standard textbook. They will learn about people, events, and phenomena from perspectives that truly interest and engage them. My students are highly receptive to authentic, thorough, and honest analyses of US History, and these books will help them develop their critical thinking skills in many ways.
