Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
New studies have shown the science of reading programs significantly help student learn to read. Being an ENL teacher to students in grades kindergarten through third grade, I have seen the importance of building these essential foundational skills for students to be successful readers.
These phonics books and decodable books will allow me to provide my students with engaging and visually appealing text to help them build those foundational reading skills.
At the moment, the decodable readers I have are printed in black-and-white. Some build those foundational phonic skills, but lack content to build comprehension skills. Visuals are very important for ENL student to build vocabulary and content knowledge. At times black-and-white or poorly printed photocopies, hinder the purpose of these visuals.
The decodable readers will allow me to provide students with text that build those foundational phonics skills as well as provide content for building comprehension skills. The Teacher-pay-Teachers gift card will allow me to buy additional decodable texts that can be printed. Additionally the printer ink will allow me to make color copies for students to have visually appealing text to read.
I try to provide every opportunity for my students to grow and learn. I want to give every student I teach access to every and any learning opportunity.
