This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a 4th-grade teacher at a public school in Arizona. My school is a Title I school where one hundred percent of students receive free or reduced-priced breakfast and lunch.
My students come to school excited and ready to learn.
They work well together as a team and encourage each other to strive towards their goals. My classroom is filled with uniqueness and diversity.
As a teacher, I am committed to providing my students a quality education through relevant and meaningful lessons. Through differentiation, I make sure the needs of my students are met. In my classroom, students grow academically in addition to learning life skills and building confidence. My students are the reason I come to school every day.
My Project
For my school's student showcase, my students will be writing a biography and giving a short speech on his/her person of interest. In order for my students to write their biographies, they need background information on their person of interest.
The Who Was/Is series will help teach my students about important people in history.
The Who Was/Is series is a book series published for children in 2003. These books describe the lives of important people and explain their significance. These books will provide students with credible and relevant information about their person.
My students will use the information from these books to write a biography on a person. They will write about the person's childhood, adult life, and what they are famous for. At the student showcase, my students will dress-up as the person and give a short speech describing the life of the person they chose.
