Books For Beginning Readers

My students need 33 high-interest, low level books.

This project is fully funded

I try to get my inner-city students to become life-long readers. My fourth grade students come to me with various literacy backgrounds: some have spoken English for less than a year, while others excel when it comes to reading.

My classroom library is pretty spectacular (if I do say so myself) thanks to many generous donors on DonorsChoose.org. Though my library has greatly grown over the years, I realize that my beginning readers have a very limited selection of texts that are at their level. The beginning reader books that I do have are considered too "babyish" for many fourth graders.

I have selected a variety of books that are at a beginning reading level and also meet the interests of fourth graders. Of the 33 books I selected, none will be considered "baby" books. These books will get some of my most reluctant readers racing to get their hands on them.

Your donation will ensure that all of my students, regardless of their reading levels, will have access to high-interest books. Please help my beginning readers get hooked on reading.
