My students need leveled books they can read independently to build their confidence and enthusiasm for reading.

My Students
My first grade students come from a tight-knit, low-income community in the city of Chicago. They are excited to be starting first grade and to receive letter grades for the first time this year.
Each of my students is uniquely talented, counting on school to provide a place to let those talents shine.
First grade establishes a strong foundation for students in school, both academically and socially. This group is focused on building a supportive classroom community and working together to help one another succeed.
My Project
My first grade students are ready to read! We need new leveled books to expand our classroom library and engage our developing readers. Our current library contains a limited number of kindergarten level books with little room to grow.
These sets of leveled books will provide more choices for student readers, from both fiction and non-fiction texts.
More advanced readers will be able to explore these titles immediately, while to other students, these books will represent a goal to reach as they build their reading and comprehension skills. Most importantly, more books will reinvigorate our library and increase student access to literature and informational texts in the classroom.
