This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a diverse set of forward thinking young people. They are inquisitive, have great leadership skills, display positive attitudes, and are ready to take charge.

One of the goals of our 9th grade African-American history curriculum is to create a classroom community that is able to contribute ideas for an anti-racist world.

My students want to move the world towards justice and this project will provide my students with a text that puts racism and anti-racism into historical context.

My Project

Jason Reynolds' rendition of Ibram X. Kendi's "Stamped from the Beginning: The Definitive History of Racist Ideas in America" makes the history found in the original (608 pages) accessible to my students. This accessibility will help us have conversations rooted in historical context and nuance.

My students are hungry for conversations about solutions and paths we can take toward an anti-racist present and future.

Importantly, this text is about the history of ideas that influence all of us and thus will be a tool for self-awareness and reflection. This is difficult and essential work. Thank you for supporting this formative experience.
