Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The books in this project will help to improve the print-rich environment that I aim to create for my preschoolers! Our classroom library is a space that they enjoy using every day, and it's important to me that the books they encounter are inclusive and relevant. For example, this school year I purchased Hair Love on my own to add to our collection.

The joy on one of my student's faces as she exclaimed "wow this girl looks like me" was enough for me to realize how important representation is, and that I need to work to make sure all of my students feel that way.

In addition to inclusivity, we also have an enormous focus on social emotional learning at the preschool level. The three box sets of emotion books in this project will go a long way to aid those lessons and discussions. Reading to my students has always been one of my favorite ways to connect with them, teach them, and expand their minds, and I'm so looking forward to seeing how the books in this project can help with all of that!
