My Students

My class is a 2nd grade class full of 20 students different students all from a different background.

The one thing all of my students have in common is their eagerness and thirsty for knowledge. Our school is a Title 1, 100% free breakfast/lunch school with students whose daily lives are effected by the curse of poverty.

My Project

All of my students love to read but books aren't easily accessed at home due to cost. Our students are allowed to bring home books from the library but what they really enjoy is my "in-class" library. My library is more fun for them because it's full of books that encourage their interests and allows them to explore. Like most 2nd grade students, they love 2 things. Junie B Jones books and sports. These books will add more excitement to my library. These books will be used to in the classroom for interest purposes but also go along with our Accelerated Reading program used here at school to test over book comprehension.

I am already spending plenty of my own money each month to meet our classroom needs, making sure we are always filling our library with new text.

This has really become an expensive task considering it is my first year teaching 2nd grade. My students will greatly benefit from having these text series right at their finger tips. My goal with having these chapter books series is to increase reading fluency, reading comprehension & help my students in reaching higher A.R. reading goals.
