My Students

8th grade is a pivotal year for many students. Statistics show that this is the year students decide if they will ultimately drop out of school. This is tragic!

Working at a school with over 70% considered low-income, with a higher-than-average percentage of special education students, and with homeless students and many foster children, I feel the extra challenge to make sure this is year that they fall in love with school.

I want them to believe, truly believe, that they can and will be successful in school and beyond.

My Project

Books, books, books! Many of my students come from households with little to no reading material. They claim to "hate" reading, but in reality just haven't fallen in love with the right book yet! My goal is to get the right book into the hands of these cautious readers. I just need your help!

I just need to fill my classroom with modern and relevant books that appeal to their interests. Once I put the right book in their hands, the magic happens! Please help me foster a love of reading for my students.
