This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

You'll be hard pressed to find students working harder under challenging conditions than my students. They are still young children, but most are not only learning what is expected of them for our state standards but also learning English. They live in difficult situations and many face food insecurity. These eight-year-old children have faced more challenges in their young lives than most adults have done.

None of their challenges slow them down though!

They are thrilled to come to school, full of questions and wonders, and excited to learn together. Each day is a new adventure and new opportunity in their eyes.

My Project

While my students have access to a school library every week, having a diverse, well-stocked classroom library is critical for their reading development. These are books that will be available to them at any time. They need to have books ready at hand so that their reading needs are met.

These books include graphic novels, nonfiction, fiction series, and books in Spanish to ensure that, no matter their interests, these burgeoning readers can find their hearts' desire.

Books offer windows to new worlds, mirrors to help understand our own lives, and entire universes of ideas and questions to explore. These books will help my students become readers for life.
