My Students

My students are the forgotten, the ignored, the unfortunate. The school has no library, so the teachers must supply them with books as the neighborhood library is too dangerous to get to on any given day. They come from a neighborhood in Chicago where guns are more common than books; however, they have dreams, big dreams.

They dream of college and careers.

They dream of briefcases and polished shoes. They dream of a savings account and success. My students can be successful, but they have not reached their full potential and won't without a basic necessity: books.

My Project

I am looking to amp up my classroom library with titles that students can connect to and won't intimidate them.

We will use these books each day for students to ignite or reignite a love of reading.

My students need these titles as they too often see reading as a chore. To get a book into their hands that makes them smile or cry is a victory on every level.

Once students see that books are not something they have to read, but that they get to read, everyone wins.
