This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Books open the doors to discovery and beyond. This belief is essential and necessary when trying to create a culture of reading & readers in a class of ESL students.

Difficult books might overwhelm them, which is why a classroom library of fun decodable books with vivid pictures is just what they need!

My students attend a school that is only three years old, the community is plagued with poverty and violence. This is not the safest community, yet my students come to school every day. This is just one of their challenges, another of the challenges they face on a daily basis is learning English as a Second Language. Through their nationalities are wide and varied, their love for knowledge and learning is the same. They are fascinated by books! Finding a book that is just right is a difficult task, but once they have found a book that is accessible and of high interest, the rest will be simple.

My Project

These books will enrich my students lives with words, sentences, pictures, sounds, and stories. Having access to a classroom library of books that they can access will definitely have a positive impact on their continued growth and desire for learning. The stories found in these books will not only engage them but they will also help with decoding and phonetic development. As students that are learning English, constant practice is necessary, there is no better way to provide this practice than by placing these amazing books in their hands.

The process of acquiring a new language will become much more easier for my students if they have access to books that are engaging but accessible to them.

Books are the magical tools that will help my students not only with literacy development, but also with instilling in them a passion for reading!
