This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Although their circumstances may not be the best, my students come to school every day eager to learn. I teach second grade in Paterson, NJ. Our school is located in an urban community riddled with poverty and crime. My classroom consists of 10 general education students and 13 English language learners. My English language learners come from multiple different countries and a total of three languages are spoken within our classroom. When my students walk through our classroom doors, they know they are safe, loved, and about to have fun learning!
My Project
I teach a very diverse group of students and I want to bring books into our library that are a reflection of our diversity! Through these books, students will be able to make connections. These books will also be an amazing took to help us learn about each other's cultures and traditions. We will use these book to learn about acceptance.
I have also chosen books about self worth to add to our library.
We will use these books to learn how to be proud of our differences and be proud of ourselves. We will use these books to foster discussions about what makes us unique and special during read alouds.
