My students need 20 Big Books and nonfiction texts in order to help peak their curiosity and increase their love for reading!

My Students

Do you remember what it was like when you first began to love reading? My students are at the brim of that discovery and need non-fiction texts and Big Books to put them over the edge! Some of my students have never been exposed to books and these texts are an amazing way to start their journey.

My students are full of excitement about Kindergarten and being in school!

They are sweet and ready to learn new things every day. Our school is fairly new, it opened four years ago and is lacking many instructional materials, including non-fiction texts and Big Books. Our school has a moderate poverty level, about 40% of our students receive a free or reduced lunch. My goal is to fill our classroom with as many literacy opportunities as possible to help our young students meet the goals of becoming 21st century learners and global competitors.

My Project

Non-fiction texts will drastically improve the literacy library that we have in our classroom. Students will be able to use and improve their inquiry-based skills by reading interesting texts that are based on real things or events. Kindergarten students are at a great age in which exploration is at the forefront of much of their learning. Non-fiction texts allows students to explore books to seek answers to their curiosities. Big Books will also help to improve our classroom library. Think back to when you were in school and were being read to. Was it interesting when the teacher read from this tiny book as you sat in the back and couldn't see the illustrations? Big Books allows for students to get lost in the stories and to investigate the illustrations to help gain a better understanding of the story. Many kindergarten students come into the grade without the skills necessary to read words, and that's why its imperative that they have access to Big Books and their illustrations.

The donation of these items will make a difference in our classroom by helping students become more eager to read books!

Students will be able to satisfy their curiosities through non-fiction texts. Big Books will allow students to remain engaged in a story, even if they aren't able to read the words yet. This is an important project in Kindergarten because it helps to foster a love for reading in students, which is something they can take with them through their education.
