This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Didn't you love Nancy Drew when you were growing up or The Hardy Boys? Well, Nancy Drew is definitely back in style among my students. Some of them are totally absorbed by the graphic novels of these classics and others are reading the good old chapter books.

My students come from various parts of the world and are learning Academic English with great enthusiasm.

They are loquacious, inquisitive, and lovers of Read-Aloud books! Their families cannot afford to provide them with many books at home but are anxious for them to learn as much English as possible. Our students attend a small, urban, well-loved public elementary school that has been in this community for many, many years. Students come from other parts of the city to attend this bilingual school that has a vision of graduating students who are resilient, and culturally aware life-long learners.

My Project

Most of my students are English Language Learners. Many of their parents do not read English. So they are not read to in English except in school. Having these classic novels and newer high interest literature available to them has the potential for expanding their vocabulary and improving their comprehension skills. It will open up their world! Your donation can help provide needy students with many rewarding hours of enriched exposure to classic children's literature.

Without your donations, our class library will lack some of the most popular classic novels ever published.

Without your generosity, my students won't be able to access some of the latest award winning literature. My students can borrow these books from our classroom library conveniently, take them home, or read them in class. Research has shown that having the right books accessible has a tremendous impact on a student's desire to read and a student's lifetime love of reading.
