Help me give my students books, books and more books. Engaging books for a preschool classroom include books about families, books in families' native languages, non-fiction books and sensory friendly books.

My Students

My students are 3 to 5 years old. All of my students have qualified for and are receiving special education services. Their special education needs include speech/language services, pre-academics, behavior intervention, and social skills instruction. We do all of this through play.

Just like all preschoolers, my students learn by playing, getting messy, being noisy and having fun.

The skills we focus on in preschool are the foundation for students' success in the future. It's amazing to realize that the playing we do in preschool sets the stage for so much more in my students' lives.

My Project

Books in preschool need to be engaging, interactive and related to the students' lives. I am asking for books about families, both fiction and nonfiction. These will help students see themselves in our books and build a foundation for loving books. I am also asking for books in Spanish. It is crucial that children see and hear their home language in our classrooms.

For some of my earliest learners, sensory books like the touch and feel series will help them begin to engage with books and begin their love of books.

Lastly, I am asking for nonfiction books about transportation and animals. These are two of the highest interest topics for my students. Having books about topics that are important to students will also support their love of books.
