Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from various social economic backgrounds. They range from low income families to homes where parents are trying their best to raise their children in a neighborhood that has gang related problems daily. There are students that don't have either parent and are either with a foster family or with a relative. Either way, they come to class eager to learn, which is why I wouldn't want anything more but to enhance their excitement for education through games and materials.

My Project

These materials will make a difference in my students' learning by giving them access to their most loved titles. The Dog Man series and the Captain Underpants series are always the most popular books in our school library. I want to be able to provide these series in my own classroom so my students do not have to wait for it to be available from the school library. These books motivate my students who haven't found the love of books, yet. That means by providing access to these motivational books, my reluctant readers will soon become avid readers because the books that make them laugh and entertain them are in hands reach.

Access to books is the key to providing the skills necessary for my learners.

I also want to provide books that students may not necessarily choose from first sight. Non fiction books or not as popular reading series provide strong vocabulary, background knowledge and an insight to people or worlds my students may not be familiar with. Having the Who Was series and Anne of Green Gables is just a start in providing access to new series that my students will soon love.
