This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a third grade teacher in a title 1 school. My students really like to read but they do not have access to them. I have 16 students in my class who are eager to interact to interact with new books, however they do not have access to them. Our school library has many books but they are usually checked out. Most of my student have limited access to books at home. My students are really working diligently to make learning gains this year.

My Project

My students will be able to read the books in the classroom during free time. They will also be able to take the books home to read for pleasure. We will use the books to create a battle of the books team, where one student will become an expert on that books. We will create teams and have a friendly competition.

The more book they are exposed to the more they become engaged in reading. I have experience this this year already with the small sample of books that I have. The students have really enjoyed reading them.
