This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"A book is a gift you can open again and again." - Garrison Keillor In our 2nd grade classroom we are reading daily but lack access to our school library. In order to become better readers, my students must read. We need our own books in the classroom for this to happen.

We have over 800 students at our school but only 1 Librarian.

She has to teach classes, check out books, and try to put them back on the shelves for others. We must have books in our classrooms to allow our students to keep reading since we only have certain days and times we are able to visit the Library. We are a Title I school and have over 65% students that receive Free and Reduced Lunch. We are also over 50% Hispanic.

My Project

I am requesting an assortment of BOOKS!! We're very limited to days & times that we can check out books in our school library. Therefore, I have to have my own library in the classroom. Having these books in our Classroom Library will allow my students to become successful readers. It will also give them more opportunities to visit the unknown. My students love taking Accelerated Reader tests and earning points for different prizes such as "Principal for the Day" and Movie and popcorn with the Principal.

If these books are donated to our classroom, my students will be allowed to travel to worlds unknown.

It will spark interest into a world they may not have ever seen or heard of before. I used to send home Scholastic Book Orders, but parents do not buy them like they used to. I never have enough to order which is so sad to me. Many have never even been inside our Public Library. I am the only way some students will ever be exposed to books.
