My class is made up of a variety of students, general education students, children with disabilities and children that speak another language, English as a New Language. They speak English, Spanish, and Arabic. It is a Title I community learning school where 98% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch. Some of the students have experienced severe trauma in their lives and have difficulty coming to school on a daily basis. Their attendance rate is below 80%. The majority of the students are reading below grade level.
My Project
Parents will help their child/children read each night at home. They need books on their level so that they can practice strategies they are learning in class.
My class is made up of students from low income families that do not have any books at home.
Parents want to help their children but they do not have the resources at home.
My students are reading way below reading level. I am currently printing books from the computer and sending home black and white books each night from children to read. My students will benefit from vivid illustrations in these leveled readers.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
