My Students

Hello! I am a second-year teacher in the Cleveland Metropolitan School District and every day I get to work with the most amazing kids I have ever met. Many of my students live in poverty and they all receive free breakfast and lunch. To them, books are a luxury. Our students work hard and face many personal challenges on a daily basis that impacts their ability to learn. I also work with many bilingual students, some who were even affected by the hurricanes in Puerto Rico last year. As a Reading Specialist, I work with the most struggling readers in grades K-3. My students are so limited in what they know and have been exposed to that I need to quickly boost them to an emergent reader level. Reading affects all school subjects. By empowering my students with the gift of reading, I hope to help make them successful in all aspects of their education.

My Project

I hope to provide my students with the books they need in order to enhance the Reading Recovery and the Leveled Literacy program at our school. These 100 books are leveled specifically for the Reading Recovery program that is being used in my school. These wonderful books will continue to expand the library the children use each day during their lessons. These amazing titles will continue to help my students build their reading skills and a true love for reading as well. Not only will your donations help buy books, but also a cozy reading center, with bean bag chairs, where my students will always feel safe in my classroom. Please help these little children. They have so little and the smallest of things bring great big smiles to their faces. I want them to learn and grow no matter what adversity they may be facing now.
