This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember how much fun it was to learn to read? The feelings of pride and accomplishment you felt when you picked up a book for the first time and read it independently? My students are just beginning to discover the joy of reading independently.

My students attend a Title I school where 75% or more students receive free or reduced lunch.

They live in an impoverish inner-city neighborhood. Where crime is high and high school graduation rates are low. They don't have much at home, yet they come to school exited and ready to learn. Most of my students are English language learners, and for most this is their first schooling experience. They enjoy learning through hands-on activities that are fun and engaging. They enjoy incorporating technology into their learning. They also enjoy reading books at their independent level; unfortunately, we don't have enough books in our classroom library for students to read independently in class.

My Project

I am requesting a variety of King Series books, a King Series teachers edition, an iPod Touch magnetic letters, table top writing and communication center, so that they can learn to read and write. The King Series books are a collection of books for beginning readers. In addition having the teachers editing will help me differentiate reading instruction in small groups where I'm able to target specific reading skills based on my students needs. My students are just developing their reading and writing skills they need fun and engaging activities to capture their imagination while feeling success in reading and writing. An iPod touch can help them develop their reading and writing skills. With many educational based apps such as ABC Trace, and many more, my students will learn letter formation, decoding, phonemic awareness and phonic skills to help foster their growing love for reading and technology.

Please help bring these invaluable resources, such as King Series guided reading books, and many hands on resources, to deserving students.

The primary grades are fundamental in developing and fostering reading skills. Please help my students become lifelong learners.
