My Students

I am teaching 6th and 7th grade in Baltimore City, Maryland. My students are amazing, bright scholars excited and ready for the new school year. Many of the students are learning English as a second language and need extra support in the classroom. I am trying to find the best ways to support each student and ensure they succeed. My students are vibrant and excited to learn. They have the energy and capability to learn and I want to be there to see it! We always discuss that we need to work as a team so that we can all succeed. In order to do that, I need the supplies to do my part!

My Project

My students deserve a library that is reflective of them and shares contributions made by people of different backgrounds. These representative books will allow our students to feel appreciated and remind them that they are important. My students will become more interested in science and social studies after reading books written about African-Americans, Hispanic peoples, Native Americans, and Asian peoples. Far too often, the stories of people of varying cultures are not told. Book sets on a given topic in history will provide deeper insight and a more enriching experience.

My students love to read, and having a more expansive library will motivate them to achieve more!

Currently, our library does not have much of a variety in terms of displaying a variety of cultures. Seeing these new books will excite my students to become historians and active members of the learning environment. Our students will understand that all people from all backgrounds are appreciated and they must be aware of major events in history.

In sum, having this influx of books on these topics and people will broaden the horizon of my students and give them a boosted interest in learning.
