Our students are eager to learn and love to celebrate each other's successes. They know that even though they may learn differently than others, they are capable of doing anything they set their minds to. They are determined to succeed and love to encourage each other to persevere.
My special education classroom is filled with 16 caring 2nd-5th grade students who are eager to learn and love to see each other succeed.
Our classroom is part of a turnaround school on the south side of Chicago. Each student comes to school with a variety of advantages, disadvantages, abilities, and disabilities. The greatest struggle that faces our classroom is the fact that each student is functioning significantly below grade level in reading. Despite this fact, my students are determined to succeed and are proud of each and every goal they meet.
My Project
These books will help to build a guided reading library for my special education students who are reading at a kindergarten level. I have recently transitioned to teaching younger students and am seeking to ensure that I have the same great resources for them as I do my older students.
The texts included in this project will be read by students who are just learning to read and are building their love for books.
The addition of the books included in this project will help me to greatly increase the size of my library that is accessible by younger students with lower reading levels. They will be excited to have a variety of new, exciting texts on their level to choose from!
