Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am the fortunate teacher of 23 wonderful fourth grade students. Many of my students come from low income homes, but are eager learners. I just met them four days ago, and I know that they are just an amazing bunch.

We are just starting the new school year, but we have a limited number of books. The books that we have in our classroom library are either very difficult or very easy to read for my students. I explained to them how to pick the right book for them, but when it was time to choose their book, they did not have too many choices. Some of the children finished reading the book they choose too soon. Others wanted to change them right away because they were hard to read. Of course, they are allowed to search for the perfect book, but the problem is that they don't have too many options to choose from.

My students need a variety of picture books and chapter books in our classroom library. By adding colorful and interesting fiction and non fiction books, my students will feel motivated to read. I believe that children should be able to choose what they want to read. Children will improve their reading skills as well as their writing skills by spending more time reading everyday.

With your help, my wonderful students will have access to fiction and non fiction books. They will read with a partner, silently, and with their families. They will able to take the books home. Remember, soccer players become better players by practicing long hours. Readers become better readers by reading everyday.
