My Students
I teach 2nd grade. Second graders are like little sponges. They want to learn and absorbe everything you say. We are on the coast of SC in a rural area. We have many different kinds of families and children from diverse backgrounds and many different socioeconomic groups, however most are from a lower and on free lunch.
We have a very diverse group of students who need to learn at their level and at their own pace and be comfortable doing it.
They love to learn and strive to succeed and need Many different types of books to read about things they don't get to experience.
My Project
My 2nd graders love to read and learn... and love to learn through reading. The feeling of a book in your hands as you read is a feeling every child needs to experience. We need new leveled books and nonfiction books to read. We all need to read books on our just right level to improve and get better.
The leveled books in this project will allow all my students to locate books on their level and to read about topics they enjoy at that level and the science and social studies books allow my students to read books about our topics and standards and learn more About these topics on their own.
More than a third of students from low‑income households
