My Students
I teach in a school in Brooklyn where 50% of the students receive free lunch. My class has twenty two kindergarten students who love learning. My students are creative and curious and I want kindergarten to be a wonderful experience for them. They love to come to school and they like to explore, ask questions, solve problems and work on projects. I teach an Intergrated Co-teaching class in which half of the students have special needs. In a special needs classroom it is challenging to accommodate the varying levels of ability and paces of learning so I need the right materials for all of my students.
My Project
I need more fiction and non-fiction books for our classroom library. Literacy is connected to all of our content areas. Unfortunately, getting the right books is a big challenge. My students are learning to read and I need books that are at each student's level to be able to scaffold their learning. Having these books will support all learning areas and teach them to appreciate the world of learning that reading brings.
In order to be able to incorporate literacy across the curriculum, I need a leveled library for early readers.
I want to create a literacy rich environment where I can foster my students' love for reading. Your support would help make this possible.
