Help me give my students books to read! Great books encourage great readers.

My Project
I will be teaching music from Pre-K to 4th grade this year at a Title 1 school in New Orleans, Louisiana. In addition to learning music, I am setting aside time during my class to reinforce reading skills. Currently, Louisiana is behind in reading literacy, and I want to change that!
My students do not have access to the supplies they need to learn.
Apart from these, necessary supplies are books that encourage curious young learners! I have chosen a variety of read-aloud books for my young musicians and scholars. I teach predominantly Black students, so we are focusing on stories of important Black historical figures and the culture of Louisiana. These books highlight some of the greats like Wynton Marsalis and Trombone Shorty - right here from the bayou! They also have texts that tell stories of important historical figures like Ruby Bridges. We have funny and relatable texts like Alligators Don't Like Flowers, telling students a message of embracing our uniqueness and being kind to everyone.
There is so much to learn and read - this project is not possible without donors like you! Thank you for your consideration. Let's work together to get these students engaged in reading!
