My Project
Books! I'm teaching English 12 for the first time in a very long time, and I want some additional options for book circles. Bites! My students inhale empty calories and flamin' hot carbs all day, and what they really need is protein.
This project will satisfy my students' brains and bellies.
My school has plenty of copies of "I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter" in *Spanish*, but not in English. Having English copies would allow book circle groups of bilingual and English Learners to share one text and work together to critically examine the author's choices. Kate Beaton's "Ducks" is a beautifully crafted graphic memoir begging to be read and analyzed through a variety of critical lenses.
And what can I say? Protein bars are protein bars. I like to keep a drawer full of snacks healthier than what students buy themselves at the corner store or gas station before school. Funding this project will keep that drawer stocked for two months.
