My Students

My students are four year olds entering school for the first time. They are curious, creative, and enthusiastic about learning. This year I am beyond lucky to have the chance to work with students from a wide variety of places around the world and mostly girls. Many are newcomers to Boston and are dual language learners. Everything is new and exciting for them as they are becoming more and more independent and finding themselves.

They love to play outside, work in centers, and sing!

My students are learning about themselves, their classmates, and what it means to be a part of a community.

My Project

Since the majority of my students this year identify as female I find myself with the opportunity to spend a lot of time focusing on the differences that women have made in the world. I want to use stories that reflect the student's own cultures and experience like a mirror, but also allow them to see their potential as they look forward as if looking out a window.

I'm hoping to integrate these books into the learning experience by using them to introduce related projects and supplement the current curriculum.

I expect that students will be more likely to retain information and meet learning standards when the materials used apply to their lives.
