My Project

As a kindergarten teacher all children want to read. Some begin reading as early as 4 years old in pre-school. Those students need a challenge by the time they enter kindergarten. Then you have some children that only know very little sight words, but are beginning to read simple CVC word sentences when entering kindergarten. Again, those children need to be challenged on a different level. Finally, there are children that come to kindergarten who have never attended a pre-school program nor any kind of educational daycare with only knowing 0%-40% of their letters and letter sounds. Those children will learn to read but it will be at a slower pace than the others. No child deserves to be left behind. All children deserve the right to learn how to read.

I love all my children and want them to feel successful.

I encourage them to read because when you learn how to read and become a fluent reader you can go anywhere you want and take an adventure of a lifetime traveling through a book. Each child in my classroom is special in his/her own unique way. When I look at them I see the future leaders of America.

The books that are in my cart will help differentiate for all children in my class by building upon their self-esteem and making them confident fluent readers. The books will be used in small group centers, reading baskets, and also used as a nightly read with a parent.
