Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My class is a wonderful group of 5th graders from Barstow, California. They are eager to learn new content , especially in Math and Science. I have about 20 students on Individualized learning plans and Individualized education plans due to their low reading levels and because of specific learning disabilities. The thing is, they love to read!

My students are book-loving, avid readers, and enthusiastic learners.

They look forward to reading time everyday. They are so proud of themselves and can't wait to share with me and their classmates when they gain a new reading level or finish a chapter book. They beam with joy as they share their accomplishments.

My Project

Help me give these students the joy of owning literacy gold. A moajotlrity of my students live in a poor part of town. Many of these students are classified as ho.eless and many tend to live in hotels. They have to move from place to place and not have something to call their own. Allowing them to have their own book will give them a sense of ownership and somethi g to call their own. Esperanza Rising is a tale of a family and friends who once were affluent and due to the patriarch's death and evil musings of a "family" member, must learn to survive on their own. Esperanza's life is turned upside down, but she goes through and learns that changes can be good and sometimes surprises happen when ever they were down. My students will be able to connect personal experiences to this mastepiece.
