My Students
Our students are from a wide range of communities in Ohio, and they have chosen our public school because of the strong reputation of our K-8 program and the opportunity to help start a new school and to embrace the challenges of the International Baccalaureate (IB) program.
In order to succeed in the IB program, in school, and in life, our students need to read, and in order to read, we need books!
Just as we have a diverse group of students, we have a diverse group of readers. Our students love Stephen King, Rick Riordan, John Steinbeck, August Wilson, Rapi Kaur, William Golding, Ray Bradbury, R.J. Palacio, Veronica Roth, Tupac Shakur, the Bluford Series, J.K. Rowling, Lois Lowry, J.R.R. Tolkien, Jerry Spinelli, Markus Zusak, Gary Paulsen, Harper Lee, Jacqueline Woodson, Ji-li Jiang, Walter Dean Myers, Linda Sue Park and many others.
My Project
My students need a variety of books to support their love for reading. Students will read independently, in small groups, with their friends, with their parents, and in classes. More choices make for better and happier readers! They will talk about books, argue about books, post about books, recommend books and, one day, write books of their own! Reading will not only help them in English class, but in their other classes as well. Reading will also help improve their standardized test scores.
We want them to love to read!
These books will help them learn everything from vocabulary to empathy. Reading can and will change their lives! These students are the future.
