The idea of a hero's journey is as old as our first stories and has become a common narrative structure that is used in many books, movies, and other forms of storytelling. It involves a protagonist who goes on a journey of self-discovery, facing challenges and overcoming obstacles along the way. For struggling readers, books about the hero's journey can be particularly effective, as they provide a compelling storyline that can motivate students to read more.
With your support, we would like to purchase the original heroes' journey, a graphic novel of Odyssey and Summer of Mariposas which is is a magical Mexican American retelling of The Odyssey, and a celebration of sisterhood and maternal love.
Both novels will be great for my struggling teen readers. I believe they will help my struggling readers improve their literacy skills, increase their confidence, and perhaps help grow a love (or at least a tolerance) of reading.
Thank you for considering our request. I am grateful for any support you can provide to help our students succeed.
