Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work in a fantastic community, comprised mostly of Latinx Students. My school is located in an urban environment and my students are voracious readers! I teach ELA to two classes of 5th graders and they love engaging with diverse texts.

My students are a diverse group and I want them to see themselves in the books that they read.

I have free time built in my curriculum for my students to explore books of their choosing. Because of this, I would love to create a classroom library in order to get them excited about books and foster their love for reading.

My Project

The books will help create a library that will give my students access to books in my classroom to read and engage with during the school year. Having access to these diverse books will allow my students to enhance and develop their skills in choosing the perfect book for them to read. They will use these books during independent reading and for group book discussions.

The goal is to foster their love for books and reading, therefore they will be able to check out the book of their choosing, go on that adventure, return it and choose another journey to go on.
