Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach in a small public high school in Los Angeles and I teach American Literature, a required 11th grade course. The books that we have at present are very worn and tattered and many are missing. New books are desperately needed.
I have wonderful resources to back up the study of "The Great Gatsby" such as a biographical video of the author F. Scott Fitzgerald, two versions of the movie on DVD and a diverse set of printed materials that deal with the study of this book such as analysis, response to literature, and detailed exploration of this classic.
If I were to receive this class set, it would benefit 4-5 classes as I usually teach at least 4 sections of this class. The students would have the benefit of being exposed to this much loved classic as well as have a clear idea of this exciting time in American history.
I believe that fulfilling this request of a class set of paperbacks would be a wonderful way to have our students appreciate the richness and diversity in American literature.
