Books And Graphic Novels For An Inclusive Classroom!

My Students

The majority of my students live in high socioeconomic need where they have less access to resources. They overcome systemic challenges on a daily basis and are still determined to succeed. Many of them are English Language Learners - talented bilinguals, and in some cases, trilinguals!

My Project

My classroom library currently has some loved series. But in order to nurture my students' blossoming literacy, we need many more high interest books! I've intentionally included many loved series, such as Bad Kitty and Dog Man! I've also included graphic novels. Research shows that graphic novels strengthen students' reading skills, including inferencing and synthesizing information. Graphic novels are also high interest books - the kiddos are itching to read them! And finally, graphic novels are accessible for all students due to the pictures. They will be especially helpful for my English Language Learners because they can still practicing inferencing, can begin to learn and notice punctuation, and other elements of story telling.
