With the help of the DonorsChoose community, at the end of the 2020 school year I was fortunate to be able to make "goodie bags" for my seniors and deliver the bags to their homes. With Covid rearing its ugly head, I wanted my students to know that they were loved.
It is in that same spirit that I propose this project.
I would like to fill gift bags with books and other goodies to give to my students. The timeline is variable. If the items arrive in time, I'd love to give them to students to take home for spring break. If not, these gifts will be enjoyed this summer.
My goal has always been to create life-long learners and readers. I believe the best way to do that is to give a high-interest book to a child with no strings attached - no tests, no essays - just fun. If you read the list of books requested, you will see that the list includes books from the bestseller's list and a wide variety of genres. I want to include something for everyone. I wish I could remember where I heard this bit of wisdom, but I believe it with my whole heart: There is no such thing as a child who doesn't like to read. If you have a child who claims to hate reading, he just hasn't been introduced to the right genre yet.
By supporting this project, you will help to create gift bags that will include books, snacks, and other fun items that students can enjoy at home.
