Books and Chromebooks, A Winning Combination

My students need six chromebooks with covers; a dry erase USA wall map; and 26 assorted science and history books including Guts, The Presidency, Our Solar System to continue to improve their literacy.

My Students

Our students are starving for knowledge and want to connect beyond their classroom walls. Many of our text resources are outdated and not kid friendly. Much of the technology in our room is outdated and can't utilize the latest learning tools including Google Apps.

Our students are inquisitive and love to learn.

We have a supportive community yet some of our tools are outdated and cannot be used reliably with students. Our students have grown up with technology and are good at it when it works, but aren't the best troubleshooters when things don't go as expected. Unfortunately, many of the computers in the room do not connect consistently to the Internet. While we do have a school library and an extensive classroom library, we lack relevant nonfiction material that ties back to our current curricula.

My Project

Students at this grade level are continuing to read to learn. The non-fiction books included within the proposal will be used to help supplement what we cover with our adopted history and science texts. These resources will enable us to have more project and group based activities which can extend beyond our classroom. The books combined with online resources (which will be more readily accessible with more devices including chromebooks) will assist students in conducting research to deepen understanding. The Chromebooks will be used to access collaborative tools including Edmodo, Padlet, and Google Apps. They will be used with students to allow them to connect with others to share their learning. For some projects, we will have them share their learning online for a larger audience than "just the teacher".

The donations will improve the state of technology in our class.

Our classroom library will expand to include relevant science and history materials. More meaningful projects will be made possible by working technology where we will be able to connect, share, and learn.
