Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a diverse neighborhood. They are all eager learners despite the many challenges they may face. They come from diverse backgrounds, both economically and culturally. I am proud to say our school is all-inclusive, and we celebrate the diversity of our students to the max.

Many of our families are first and second-generation immigrant families who are new to the country, planting seeds for their own success and for future generations to come.

Education is a top priority, regardless. Invest in our future! We will all benefit!

My Project

I want students to look through our classroom library and find a book character they can connect with. Connect with the character through the journey the book takes the reader through, but also a connection of similar background, cultural, gender, and experiences.

Help my students find themselves represented in the literature they read.

Background knowledge and making connections are the two main factors that allow students to improve in their reading comprehension. By making those connections on the surface, students can read deeper into the challenges the characters are facing and make inferences that might help them understand what motivates the characters to behave they do in the story.
