This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Promoting good reading habits is easier when students find "windows and mirrors" in their classroom library. When students see themselves reflected in books, their interest in continuing reading increases. They are engaged in the reading; they want to know more.

Reading should not be perceived as a tedious activity or unuseful; reading is fun and necessary.

Young children are willing to read when they can access books that represent their interests, likes, and similarities to their life experiences. Children read to learn, but they also want to read for pleasure. Reading for pleasure is possible when students have books beyond the curricular ones in their classroom library.

My students want and need "windows and mirrors" in the classroom. They asked for them, and I find the request plausible. As a brand-new teacher, I would like to give my students access to books they want to read that aren't available in my classroom. I want to start a mini library and a book club in the classroom. I want to promote good reading habits that lead them to thrive regardless of the books they read in future academic years.
