This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Embracing the cultural richness of Chinese New Year through a combination of books and art activities holds immense value, especially for my special needs students. Utilizing carefully selected books that feature vivid illustrations and simple narratives helps create an accessible and engaging introduction to the traditions, symbols, and festivities associated with the Chinese New Year. These literary explorations can serve as a catalyst for sensory experiences, allowing my students to visually and tactilely connect with the cultural elements presented in the stories.

Art activities become a dynamic and inclusive means of reinforcing these newfound understandings.

Through hands-on projects such as crafting traditional red envelopes, creating dragon masks, or painting symbols like the Chinese character for "luck," special needs students can actively participate in the celebration. These art activities are not only a form of self-expression but also provide a multisensory approach to learning about cultural diversity. The combination of literature and art not only makes the celebration of Chinese New Year accessible but also fosters a sense of inclusion and appreciation for diverse traditions, contributing to a vibrant and enriching learning experience for all students.
