My Students
The majority of my students live in high socioeconomic need where they have less access to resources. They overcome systemic challenges on a daily basis and are still determined to succeed. Many of them are English Language Learners - talented bilinguals, and in some cases, trilinguals!
My Project
My kids love reading, science, and math! They LOVE rescuing bugs that they find in the hallway and returning them to the school garden. Independent reading time is one of their favorite parts of the day. They spread out around the room to read, using wobbly chairs or rug swatches that were donated by a local rug store. Half my class spent the last year on Zoom, so being back in the classroom is a treat for them!
Unlike their very squeamish teacher, my students think bugs are adorable and are fascinated by them!
The books I've chosen will correspond to integrated learning units that will connect math, science, reading, and writing. The texts will help me introduce important math concepts in 3rd grade, and will also correspond to units about water around the world and animal adaptations.
I would love the book display to showcase all the books connected to each unit! This way kids can go and read them during research time and independent reading time!
